Summary: Joe and Adam are constantly fighting, with Adam accusing his younger sibling of not pulling his weight around the yard and with the work.
When Ben, Adam and Hoss fall ill, it is up to Joe to prove to his family that he is capable of looking after them all on his own. He doesn’t tell them that he hasn’t been feeling very well either.
As the family recovers, Joe has to deal not only with his brothers, but also two thieves who try and rob the bank whilst he is in Virginia City, getting medicine for his family. Joe is beaten, but refuses to rest on doctor’s orders or heed Paul’s warnings, still wanting to prove Adam wrong.
