Summary:  Set when Joe Cartwright is nine years of age, his father obtains an old mirror from Virginia City. When it is brought home, his boys think it is the most hideous thing they have ever seen.

When Joe forces himself to look at it one day, he doesn’t see his own reflection, but that of a boy, similar in age to himself. He doesn’t tell his family about his new found friend. Over the coming weeks, Joe’s family become increasingly worried about his strange behaviour, appearing to be talking to nobody.

Joe doesn’t realise that the boy in mirror isn’t really imaginary at all, but is a lost ghostly soul that needs his help to be able to leave the mirror which has been his prison for a very long time.
