Summary:   Seventeen year old Joe Cartwright, hates cleaning out the old waterholes around the Ponderosa during the heat of summer.   He and Hoss are assigned the unenviable task.

Almost two weeks later Joe shows the first signs of illness that cannot be attributed to anything happening to him recently.

Hoss is showing no such signs of being sick at all, who was working alongside of him.

This story is a two part one that deals with the onset of Malaria before it was able to be accurately diagnosed, and how patients coped during times before modern medicine.
