When the drifter finds himself in town with a bottle of whiskey in hand, and someone is killed, nobody will believe him that he didn’t commit the crime.   Even the Cartwright family except for Joe are hard pressed to believe that he man wasn’t responsible.

But Joe doesn’t believe any of it, and is prepared to do whatever it takes to prove that the drifter wasn’t responsible.

When evidence to the contrary does exonerate the man and everybody  can see for themselves that they were wrong, are they going to be able to say their sorry before it is too late.
